ACE Conference

An initiative of Tasmania: A State of Learning, the 2004, 2005 and 2006 adult and community education conferences have brought together Tasmania’s broad-ranging ACE sector to hear about developments in ACE, to share experiences and practices, and to further develop the direction of ACE in the state.

2006 ACE conference: Dare to be different – Innovations in ACE

Wednesday 15 November 2006, Sir Raymond Ferrall Centre, University of Tasmania, Launceston

With a focus on innovation, the 2006 conference brought together over 100 trainers, teachers, tutors, coaches, mentors, leaders, coordinators and administrators, as well as public sector policy makers and academics with an interest in adult and community education.

Conference program

Highlights included:

  • Keynote speakers on issues and developments in men's learning, the social and economic values of lifelong learning, and change and innovation in the ACE sector, nationally and internationally
  • A Western Australian perspective on government ACE policies and strategies
  • Adult educators from a range of community organisations and agencies led discussions on
    • opportunities and issues in older people's learning
    • initiatives that are engaging whole communities in learning
    • developments in effective adult literacy strategies
    • innovative program ideas that really work
    • updates on public information resources and services
    • the scope of ACE in Tasmania: measuring the effort
    • technologies and techniques for supporting adult learning
    • just what does go on inside a men's shed…

Other features:

  • Low cost, high value registration fees that included resource materials and publications, lunch and refreshments, and a great day of learning and networking in a high quality meeting facility.
