This report not only meets the department’s legislative reporting obligations, but also provides information for all Tasmanians with an interest in education, training and information services. The report provides a comprehensive overview of the operations, major initiatives and performance of the department during the 2005-06 year, and information on the department’s activities and achievements that contribute to the successes of education, training and information services in Tasmania. The report also provides information on those activities which support the achievement of Tasmania Together benchmark targets.
How the report is structured
The report is presented in sections to meet the different information needs of different readers.
1 An overview
The introductory pages provide an overall picture of the department: our services, structure, clients, workforce, finances and performance.
2 Services in detail
Four sections of the report address the department’s major service areas:
- Early years education and care
- Schools and colleges
- Vocational education and training, and adult and community education
- Libraries, archives and online access centres.
These sections describe the services provided, and highlight the activities and achievements in each area over the past year. The department’s contribution to the achievement of Tasmania Together is also clearly referenced in each chapter.
3 Required reporting
The final section provides information on the financial, administration and human resource management aspects of the department.
