Policy advice, support, and strategies for the growth and development of vocational education and training (VET), and adult and community education (ACE), are provided through the Office of Post-Compulsory Education and Training (OPCET). OPCET’s functions specific to VET and ACE include:
- supporting the Tasmanian Learning and Skills Authority, which provides advice to the Minister about the policy, planning and provision of post-Year 10 education and training services
- providing regulatory and administrative services to support Tasmania’s apprenticeship and traineeship system
- purchasing VET services from the Institute of TAFE Tasmania, a public registered training organisation, as well as other registered training organisations offering VET in Tasmania
- supporting schools and colleges providing vocational learning programs to students
- developing training initiatives to support and assist business and industry, particularly small business
- identifying training responses to support industry development
- providing improved opportunities for Tasmanians to participate in post-compulsory education and training, including ACE, through the implementation of Tasmania: A State of Learning, Tasmania’s plan for post-Year 10 education and training
- liaising with the higher education sector including the University
of Tasmania
- delivering educational programs through Adult Education
- providing management and direction for VET equity and Aboriginal policy and programs.
Registration services for VET providers, and accreditation services for courses in these areas are provided by the Tasmanian Qualifications Authority (TQA). As a statutory authority, the TQA reports separately.
