Educators, school communities and industry have been working together to merge education and skills development for the benefit of individuals, industry and the community.
The established Guaranteeing Futures initiatives focus heavily on improving retention and participation for young people. These initiatives continue to be monitored to ensure they deliver the best results for young Tasmanians. Starting in the compulsory years, young Tasmanians are provided with pathway planning and transition support as well as extensive career, work and enterprise education.
Guaranteeing Futures teams continued to be established across the state, with an additional 12 pathway planning officers and four vocational education and learning development officers employed in January 2007. Professional learning programs on pathway planning were held for schools and pathway planning was provided for all students from Years 8 to 10.
An increased number of vocational learning opportunities were offered to Year 10 students by the development of education, community, business and industry partnerships which allowed them to participate in training and workplace experiences.
Work commenced on the Year 10 pathway planning resource in February 2007. Key education, business, industry and training stakeholders are being consulted throughout its development.
