Our Strategic FocusOur strategic focus is centred on achieving the Tasmanian Government’s priorities for education, training and information services. These priorities are expressed through the goals of the Student at the Centre plan, Qualifications and Skills for Tasmania Tomorrow, the Community Knowledge Network strategy and Tasmania Together. Our commitment is to:
Tasmania’s future depends on information, knowledge and connected communities that embrace lifelong learning. We strive to provide quality learning opportunities for all Tasmanians at every stage of their life. To achieve this, we have four strategic priorities:
Learning that occurs during the early years has a lasting impact on health, future learning and life success. There are significant benefits for children who take part in early learning and development programs before they begin school. The Launching into Learning program is an initiative to help support young children, particularly those at risk, before they formally start school. Our literacy and numeracy strategy is directed at increasing student performance in literacy and numeracy at all stages of schooling including the post-compulsory years. School-developed literacy plans will enable schools to better determine effective strategies necessary to support the improvement of literacy performance of all students and achieve literacy targets. The improvement of education experiences to better meet the needs of students is crucial to our strategy for improved retention to Year 12 or equivalent. Through the initiatives such as Guaranteeing Futures and now, Qualifications and Skills for Tasmania Tomorrow we will improve opportunities for all Tasmanians to participate so they have appropriate work and life skills and the necessary qualifications when they leave the education system. Skills Tasmania will play a major role in promoting education and industry working together. It will provide industry leadership and advice to ensure that we meet the skills needs of Tasmanian industry. We value lifelong learning and the provision of ready access to quality information. The establishment of a Community Knowledge Network closely aligns the programs and services of the State Library of Tasmania, the network of online access centres, Adult Education and the Archives Office of Tasmania to provide better services for all Tasmanians. Communication with the Tasmanian community is a prime focus and we continually seek ways to improve the way we communicate with parents, teachers, business and industry and the wider community. Using a range of measures, we monitor performance across the agency. Our strategies aim to transform the way Tasmanians access education, training and information services, provide a fresh and exciting approach to lifelong learning and build an education system that realises the full value of every Tasmanian’s creative and productive spirit. |
