Assessment and reporting

All areas of the Tasmanian Curriculum are valued and important in providing students with a quality education. Schools in consultation with their communities are best placed to make decisions about the learning needs of their students, including implementation of the Tasmanian Curriculum and reporting.

The Department of Education specifies minimum reporting requirements in the Curriculum Guidance for Schools Statement. These requirements enable all government schools in Tasmania to meet important national agreements about what Australian students should learn.

Recommendations of the 2006 Reporting to Parents Taskforce [Word 544KB] are being implemented in Tasmanian schools during 2008. These will help ensure students and parents receive accurate, timely and clear assessment and reporting information. Parents are encouraged to contact their child’s school for more information about reporting timeline and procedures.

The Learning, teaching and assessment principles are common to all areas of the curriculum and provide advice to teachers about assessment. For more information about assessment and reporting in each of the curriculum areas, access the syllabus documents for each area. Support materials for each curriculum area include an Assessment Guide that provides teachers with indicators of achievement to help them make valid assessment judgements.
