The Kindergarten Development Check (KDC) helps kindergarten teachers monitor and observe important skills for learning and determine whether students are making appropriate progress for their age.

The skills included in the KDC are:

• Thinking and problem solving, e.g., counting
• Listening, speaking and understanding, e.g., following instructions
• Gross motor, e.g., climbing steps, jumping, running
• Fine motor, e.g., using pencils, scissors
• Personal and social, e.g., toileting, playing with other children.

Kindergarten students are assessed against 21 critical markers in these areas during Term 1.

Students who do not meet certain marker/s are assessed again in Term 3.

Information about the KDC is given to parents at parent-teacher discussions and/or reported in the end-of-year summary report.
