Devonport High School - assistive technologies helping students to successfully access the curriculum

Devonport High School has an enthusiastic staff who understand the importance of working as a team. This case study is about the way in which the school, with the help of a talented and creative Teacher Assistant, introduced a range of Assistive technologies (ATs) to cater for the needs of students.

What is assistive technology?

In the educational context, assistive technology has come to mean the toolkit of technologies (many with an ICT basis) that are chosen to suit the individual needs of many students with disabilities.

Programs at Devonport High School

The school runs a number of programs to help students to access the curriculum.

Our students use the software to enhance their ability to function in a regular classroom.

The programs the students attend are: ‘Getting Along' a language based program, ‘Real World Wanders’ a community access program, ‘Reading Right’ and 'Money, Money, Money’ a numeracy -based money program which includes the use of a Virtual Automatic Teller machine (ATM) and Shopping program.
