The Department

The Department

The department is responsible for providing public education, vocational education and training, adult and community education, and library and archive services throughout Tasmania.  The department reports to the Minister for Education and Skills

Services are provided through four major organisational units:

  • Early Years
  • Learning Services
  • Skills Tasmania
  • Community Knowledge Network

These service areas are supported by business units responsible for corporate support, policy development, regulation, and assessment and review. Many of the department’s business units contribute to more than one service area.

An organisational chart details the organisational units within the department.  The annual report provides descriptions and details of responsibilities and functions for the units.  The department is also responsible for a number of statutory and non-statutory boards and advisory groups.
