In 2007 a School Improvement Board was established by the Minister for Education for each of the Learning Services groups, South, South-East, North, North-West.  Membership consists of five principals from the Learning Services group’s schools and colleges, and two members external to the Department of Education with expertise in business management and/or experience in successful community relationships, appointed by the Minister.

The four regional boards meet three to five times a year to:

  • ensure that the Learning Services group is responding to the improvement plans and needs of schools;
  • ensure that state-wide programs managed by the Learning Services group are meeting the needs of schools across the state;
  • provide advice in relation to its functions.

The four Schools Improvement Boards will meet together once annually to:

  • provide advice to the Minister on the improvement and development of the Tasmanian schools network, including progress to date and opportunities for further improvement;
  • identify ways to enhance the Tasmanian schools network towards a single, seamless system;
  • review education system performance against Tasmania Together targets;
  • develop strategies for stronger school and community relationships.
