Eight international speakers will feature at the largest gathering of the nation's English and literacy educators in Tasmania in July.

About 700 delegates, including classroom teachers, principals, lecturers, consultants and researchers, are expected to attend the Bridging Divides national conference.

The conference, hosted by the Australian Literacy Educators Association and the Australian Association for the Teaching of English, will be held at Wrest Point Conference Centre from Thursday 9 July to Sunday 12 July.

The conference provides the opportunity for literacy and English educators to come together to share ideas and practices.

It will also highlight Tasmanian best practice, as leading teachers run workshops on successful strategies for their colleagues.

International speakers include Professor P. David Pearson from the University of California (reading), Professor Scott Paris from the University of Michigan (reading), Pirjo Sinko of the Education Finnish National Board of Education (equity in literacy education), Professors Juliana Saxton and Carole Miller from the University of Victoria in Canada (drama).
