North

Beaconsfield Primary School - Unveiling ceremony - Artist in Residence has just finished a series of ceramic tiles celebrating school values of Safety, Fairness, Learning and Caring after working with students from Grades 3-6. To be held at 1.30pm on 7 July. Contact is Peter Fraser on 6383 1215.

Riverside Primary School - will be celebrating literacy through a powerpoint depicting what constitutes literacy at the school. This will be featured on the large screen in the front foyer for all to see.  Contact is Colleen Breheney on 6327 3731

Cressy District High School - will publish a journal of students' work - art, photography and writing. Contact is Mark Howlett on 6397 6281.

Evandale Primary School - will be holding a literacy open morning inviting parents, grandparents and community members. Literacy activities will include small group THRASS sessions, Writers Notebook, Interactive whiteboard literacy session etc. Contact is Di Guilbert on 6391 8261.

Westbury Primary School - Week of 13 July - will be putting children into four cross grade / age groups of 35 children each from Prep - 6. They will undertake 4 Literacy for Life activities, drama, book making and illustration, puppet making and plays, and poetry. Contact is Brett Youd on 6393 1373.

Rocherlea Primary School - is combining activities relating to 'Education Week' and NAIDOC Week.  On Monday July 6 we are holding a breakfast for parents/carers/grandparents etc from 9.00 to 9.30, a flag raising ceremony at 9.30 and a 'Discovery Day' from 9.30. Family members are invited into classrooms during our 9.45 to 10.45 Literacy block to observe their children at work and become involved in their child's learning activities. We are also conducting other NAIDOC activities with a focus on Literacy eg having an Aboriginal visitor sharing cultural stories with students. Contact is Malcolm Hales on 6326 6362.

Port Dalrymple School - the whole school (Kinder to Grade 10) will stop all activities to read for a 45 minute time slot on Monday 6 July at 11.20am.  Older classes may buddy with younger classes, some may invite parents to participate, all teachers and ancillary staff will stop their usual work to read. North-West

Brooklyn Primary School - will make literacy the focus for our assembly as well as inviting members of the local community to read or share experiences with students. These are expected to include former students from the early years (1950s) of Brooklyn Primary and Aboriginal leaders from our local area. Contact is Jan Dicker on 64313975.

Burnie High School - Grade 8 students will hold a music night on Friday 3 July from 6.30pm - 8.30pm, with all proceeds going to the school music program. Contact is Judy Fahey on 6431 2744.

Nixon Street Primary School - will be holding two Parent Forums: Prep Parents - Oral Language and Understanding
Parent Morning Tea "Turning Children onto Writing" on 9 July. Contact is Reharn Morris on 6424 7733.

South

Goodwood Primary School - Launching into Learning Open Day on Friday 10 July with the focus on early years literacy.  Activities will include puppets (with grade 6 students performing a simple play), shared stories, song, rhyme and a book related craft and sausage sizzle. Bellerive Primary School - launch of a whole-school home reading program. Contact is Steven Hay on 6233 8432.

Lindisfarne Primary School  - Read Around the Clock Day.  During this day, all classes will be read to by various people from the school community.  Every class will be read to approximately 6 times, each time by a different person - Thursday 9th July. Contact is Lee-Anne Kershaw on 6243 92932.

Moonah Primary School - 1.45 on Wednesday 8 July - teachers will go to another class to read their favourite childhood story. Parents will be invited in to read their favourite childhood books with their children in a whole school reading time (2.15-2.45).  Children will hand write invitations to their parents. Campbell Street Primary School - will celebrate Education week through a community project with Hobart Playback Theatre Company Inc called 'Your Community, Your Values' on Friday 10 July at 2pm. This interactive storytelling performance builds upon the Campbell Street Values project we are currently undertaking across the whole school and school community. Roseneath Primary School - will have displays on the walls and an assembly which highlights each class with a literacy focus. All staff are going to the ALEA conference on Friday. Contact is Kate Slater on 6249 1726.

Rosetta Primary School - will be celebrating on July 8 with a variety of Kindergarten to Grade 6 activities including the PALAWA Pals Breakfast for Aboriginal students and their buddies, a flag raising ceremony, a school assembly presenting student work, recognition of   achievement and musical items, and the annual Jump Rope for Heart and Wear Red event held in the playground. This will include the demonstration skipping team presentation and be followed by class skipping activities supported by the Grade 6 Sport Leaders. Contact is Nola Lenthall on 6272 1099.

Cygnet Primary School - will be celebrating with a special flag raising ceremony and assembly on Tuesday 7 July at 2pm. Contact is Kathy Morgan on 6295 1241.

Montagu Bay Primary School - will undertake a whole school program highlighting the school Book Buddy program, where senior students mentor young students from Kindergarten to Grade 3. Parents, carers and members of the school community will be invited throughout Education Week. Contact is Glenis Stephens on 6244 1897.

Cosgrove High School - will highlight its whole school approach to learning support for English as a Second Language students throughout Education Week. Contact is Ans Van Heyster on 6271 1111.

Sandy Bay Infant School - Tuesday 7 July local illustrator and parent Tony Flowers will conduct mini workshops for all classes, incorporating the use of collage as a medium. On Thursday 9 July students will hold a birthday celebration for the Very Hungry Caterpillar's 40th Birthday, where children will eat the healthy things the Very Hungry Caterpillar ate in the story.
