Orford Primary School has held an early years Farm Experience Day

About 150 children and their families, friends and teachers experienced hands-on farm activities at the inaugural Early Years Farm Experience Day designed to showcase East Coast early learning programs.

Orford Primary School Principal Phillip Wells said that young children from the Levendale, Triabunna, Swansea and Orford communities attended the event held at local sheep farm Grindstone Bay.

Children enjoyed a barnyard sing-a-long, sheep shearing demonstration, climbing on hay bales, seeing first-hand farm yard animals and a barbeque.

Mr Wells said that the event was designed to support and enhance the school's existing Launching into Learning program, pre-kinder and kinder program.
"We also wanted a fun way to build capacity and collaboration amongst our East Coast communities," Mr Wells said.

"The event was a tremendous success and we hope played a small part in supporting and building the notion of 'one community' on our idyllic East Coast."
