Redevelopments for Northern schools underway Start on the $1.84 million redevelopment of George Town¿s Port Dalrymple School this week was another boost for the construction industry, Premier David Bartlett said today. ¿Capital works in education are essential to improving our schools but they are also an important way of supporting the construction industry in these difficult times.¿ Other projects in the North are:
¿Continental Builders started work on the project yesterday and work is expected to be completed by July 2009. ¿The project is jointly funded by the State and Australian Governments.¿ Mr Bartlett said work was also progressing on the redevelopment of classrooms and the administration area at Invermay Primary School. ¿Builders Meadson Constructions started work on the $1.906 million State Government-funded project in November. ¿The redevelopment is expected to be completed by the end of June 2009. ¿Tenders have been called for the redevelopment of classrooms at Kings Meadows High School. ¿The Australian Government¿funded project involves the redevelopment of year 7 and 8 general purpose classrooms in the school¿s B and C Blocks. ¿Construction is expected to begin in late February and the project should be completed by the start of term 2.¿ ¿The 2008-09 State Budget provided record funding to improve schools, libraries and other Department of Education buildings across Tasmania. ¿More than $41 million is being invested in 2008-09 as part of a four-year $162.87 million program and that is good news for education and the construction industry,¿ Mr Bartlett said.
