Rosny College teacher librarian wins prestigious award
A teacher librarian at Rosny College in the state's south has been awarded the Australian School Library Association Tasmania's prestigious annual award.
Sally Ludford was awarded the Doreen Hopkins Medal, which recognises a teacher librarian who has made an outstanding contribution to teaching and learning and has raised the profile of school librarianship in Tasmania.
Sally provides an extensive program to classes encompassing literature, research skills, the principles of academic integrity and supporting students in the development of their own research capabilities during their independent and investigative studies.
She has also developed and managed the college's intranet, providing staff training on the use of software.
Rosny College principal Robin Fox said Sally was an inspiration to college staff.
"Sally is a leader, she encourages and challenges learners with a supportive, information rich learning environment," Mr Fox said.
Sally's first appointment was at Yolla District High to establish a Kinder to Year 10 library. She was then appointed as the North-West regional consultant for Library Services and has also been a teacher librarian at Hellyer College and Claremont College.
The Rosny College library team has also won a research grant to conduct an evaluation of the library's services. This will include how library space and staffing can provide a one-stop shop for academic assistance and add value to the learning capabilities of students and staff and the role of resources such as Skype in online learning.
