Community Use of School Facilities

Premier David Bartlett announced, as part of his State of the State address in March 2009, a blanket cover public liability insurance policy to insure community groups using Department of Education sporting and recreational facilities.

The Department of Education, in conjunction with Sport and Recreation Tasmania, have worked collaboratively to ensure a two-year trial starts on 1 July 2009.

This trial means that not-for-profit community groups, such as sporting and recreational organisations, will be covered for public liability insurance when accessing Department of Education facilities. Commercial organisations and community groups that already have public liability insurance are not covered by these arrangements.
