Applications provide the opportunity for applicants for vacancies in the Department of Education, Tasmania to provide evidence of their suitability and merit for the advertised vacancy. Applications may highlight the applicant's experience, capacity and prior achievements as well as expressing their personal beliefs, values and understanding in respect of the position.
The preferred format for applications is included in the advertisement for the vacancy. Unless otherwise specified, the minimum requirements for applications are a standard Form 201 “Application for Employment” [PDF 117KB] together with a two page curriculum vitae or resumé.
The advertisement might also specify the following:
- a personal statement that may be required to:
- address the selection criteria
- address relevant competencies
- address a specific issue
- detail a vision statement
- project the applicant into the role of the vacancy
Applicants may present this information in the form of an “expanded” curriculum vitae or resumé if they wish. However, all applicants must include the names and contact details of relevant persons who can be contacted to verify the information and claims made in the application.
Applicant guidelines [Word 423KB] have been developed as a source of information for applicants for all vacancies within the Department of Education, Tasmania, whether those vacancies are in teaching or non-teaching areas.
An application that does not conform to the preferred option stated in the advertisement should not be rejected without being considered, as this may eliminate someone who, if included in the selection process that follows, could be the best person for the job.
The panel may ask any applicant to submit additional information.
For vacancies advertised in the Gazette, applications normally close nine days after the date of publication of the Gazette. For vacancies advertised by expression of interest, the closing date for applications will be specified in the expression of interest notice.
Late applications are rarely accepted and then only at the discretion of the Manager (HR Policy and Workforce Management). It is your responsibility to ensure that applications reach the Establishment, Recruiting and Reporting Services unit by the specified closing date.
The Establishment, Recruiting and Reporting Services unit will advise all applicants in writing that their application has been received and will forward the applications to the selection panel convenor, usually within five working days of the closing date for applications.
