(January 2005)
The Secretary of the Department of Education, Tasmania or his delegate, the Director (Human Resources Management), has specific obligations in the selection process. In particular, the Secretary (or delegate) is required to:
- ensure that the selection process complies with the requirements of the State Service Act 2000 and State Service Commissioner's Directions;
- ensure that the selection panel has used proper and valid processes in arriving at its recommendations;
- ensure that the claims of all applicants have been given fair and thorough consideration; and
- be satisfied that the selection panel's conclusions are correct and will withstand detailed scrutiny.
The Secretary (or delegate) will approve the recommendations in the selection panel's report if satisfied that the process and recommendations are appropriate. If doubtful about some aspect of the process or report, the Secretary (or delegate) will seek clarification or additional information from the convenor of the panel. This may result in the selection process needing to be undertaken again. If this occurs, a new selection panel may be convened.
Once the selection report and recommendations have been approved by the Secretary (or delegate), the report will be forwarded to Human Resources Management Branch (Recruitment) who will notify applicants of the decision and any review rights.
