Employees in the Department of Education, Tasmania are covered by a number of industrial awards and agreements of the Tasmanian Industrial Commission to which the Government and unions are parties. These awards and agreements are the source of salaries and conditions of employment.

Below is a list of the current awards and agreements and the types of employee classifications covered as well as links to the awards and agreements.

Please note: agreements contain additional information which may override certain clauses contained within particular awards: therefore some awards must be read in conjunction with applicable agreements.

• Miscellaneous Workers (Public Sector) Award (S148) - covers School Attendants undertaking cleaning, groundskeeping and kitchen assistant duties.
• Tasmanian State Service National Training Wage Award (S201) - covers those employed as Trainees.
• Teaching Service (Tasmanian Public Sector) Award (S197) - covers teaching staff which includes Principals, Advanced Skills Teachers and Guidance Officers.
• Tasmanian State Service Award (S085) - provides employment conditions, salary levels and progressions, and new classification structures that were previously defined in the General Conditions of Service, Operational Employees, Technical Employees, Professional Employees and Administrative and Clerical Employees Awards.

• Teaching Service (Tasmanian Public Sector) Salaries and Conditions of Employment Agreement 2008 - T13128 - This agreement became effective on 1 March 2008 and will remain in force until 28 February 2011. The agreement provides for wage increases and conditions of employment for teaching staff.
  • Teaching Service (Tasmanian Public Sector) Salaries and Conditions of Employment Agreement 2008 - Variation - T13319 - Details variations made to the agreement in October 2008 concerning attendance days and the teacher transfer policy.
  • Teaching Service (Tasmanian Public Sector) Salaries and Conditions of Employment Agreement 2008 - Variation - T13388 - Details variations made to the agreement in March 2009 concerning incentive payments and salary scales.
• Teaching Service (Tasmanian Public Sector) Principals Leadership Agreement 2005 - T12224 [PDF 571KB]  - This agreement became effective on 7 December 2005 and will remain in force until 28 February 2007. The agreement was originally registered with the Australian Industrial Relations Commission and was transferred to the Tasmanian Industrial Commission on 7 December 2005. Under this agreement, relevant employees can access up to a maximum of 11% of the award salary applicable to the classification of their substantive positions.
• Tasmanian State Service Union Agreement 2008 - T13303 - This agreement became effective on 27 November 2008 and will remain in force until 8 March 2011. The agreement provides for wage increases and changes to classification structures and conditions of employment provided for in the Tasmanian State Service Award.
• Educational Facility Attendant Salaries and Conditions of Employment Industrial Agreement 2008 - T13416 - This agreement became effective on 1 December 2008 and will remain in force until 30 June 2011.
  • Educational Facility Attendant Salaries and Conditions of Employment Industrial Agreement 2008 - Variation - T13479 - Details variations made to the agreement in July 2009.
• Educational Facility Attendant Job Security Industrial Agreement 2008 - T13417 - This agreement became effective on 2 April 2009 and will remain in force until 30 September 2013.
  • Educational Facility Attendant Job Security Industrial Agreement 2008 - Variation - T13478 - Details variations made to the agreement in July 2009.
• Tasmanian Public Sector Allied Health Professionals Industrial Agreement 2005 - T12462 - This agreement became effective on 13 December 2005 and will remain in force until 30 September 2008. The agreement provides for levels of remuneration and some conditions of employment (e.g. 38 hour week). Speech & Language Pathologists and Social Workers will continue to be covered by the scope of the Tasmanian State Service Award.
• Adult Education Agreement 2007 - T12917 - this agreement was registered with the Tasmanian Industrial Commission on 19 April 2007. This agreement applies to Adult Education Officers and Adult Education tutors in the Department of Education and provides salary rates and conditions of employment for this employee group.
• Teacher Aide Industrial Agreement 2008 - T13105 - this agreement was registered with the Tasmanian Industrial Commission on 20 March 2008. This agreement applies to Teacher Aides in the Department of Education and provides salary rates and conditions of employment for this employee group.
• National Tuition Program Conditions of Employment Agreement 2008 - T13129 - This agreement became effective on 1 March 2008 and will remain in force until 28 February 2009. This agreement provides conditions of employment for employees undertaking the role as a tutor for the "An Even Start National Tuition Program".
