(July 2008)
There are two categories of employment in the Department of Education, Tasmania, employees and officers.
(July 2008)
Employees can be employed on either a permanent or fixed-term basis.
Permanent employment is the usual form of employment in the State Service. However, where necessary to meet the operational needs of the department, fixed-term employees can be appointed for a specified term or for the duration of a specified task.
Permanent and fixed-term employees are appointed by the Minister (or his delegate) administering the State Service Act 2000 on behalf of the Crown.
Employees are employed on terms and conditions of employment as specified in relevant Awards, or where no relevant Award is in force, as determined by the Minister (s38).
(November 2002)
Officers include Heads of Agency, holders of prescribed offices and senior executives. Officers are appointed by the Premier (or his delegate) on behalf of the Crown for a period and on terms and conditions specified in their instrument of appointment.
