(November 2002)
Employees in the Department of Education, Tasmania are employed in accordance with the provisions of the State Service Act 2000 and Federal and State industrial awards and agreements. These awards and agreements are the source of salaries, allowances and other conditions of employment. The Department has prepared a Schedule of Allowances which provides details of the amount of each allowance.
Employees occupying positions to which human resources management delegations have been assigned are responsible for the appropriate exercise of those delegations.

Salaries administration
(May 2006)
An employee's salary is paid by direct deposit into his/her financial institution account on payday every fortnight. Employees receive a pay advice slip providing fortnightly pay details. The summary of salary scales [Word 1.1Mb] provides details of Award salaries.
Casual and relief employees are paid on the next available payday after their claim for payment form has been submitted.
School-based relief payments are now processed electronically. This process ensures more efficient and effective processing for employees and allows for valuable tracking measures for budget centre managers.
Non school-based relief employees must submit a Relief Employee Claim Form to ensure they receive payment. The form must be signed by the relevant delegate and forwarded to the appropriate Learning Services HR Officer or Co-ordinator HR Operations for processing.
Employees who have a query regarding their pay can contact the HR Operations section via the on-line Pay Enquiry Form.
It is important that any changes to an employee's pay details are received by the Human Resources Management Branch as soon as possible because input into the payroll system effectively closes at 11 am on Tuesday of the off pay week.
