There are several categories of positions in the Department of Education, Tasmania that have classification progression schemes whereby employees can progress to a higher classification level outside of the normal vacancy advertising and selection process.

The categories of positions are:

• Administrative and Clerical Employees Level 1/2
• Computer Systems Officers (CSO)
• Graduate (Administrative Trainees)
• Library Technicians Level 1/2
• School Attendants
