The Bridgewater and Southern Midlands Education Renewal Taskforce (BASMERT) was established by the Minister for Education to examine educational options following the Bridgewater High School fire.
BASMERT incorporates the phrase "Southern Midlands" in its name because following the fire the Minister decided that it was timely to review educational provision across the whole Southern Midlands area.
The taskforce is sometimes informally referred to as the "Bridgewater Community Taskforce" or the "Bridgewater Taskforce".
The taskforce is chaired by Councillor Tony Foster, Mayor of Brighton.
