As part of the Capital Investment Program schools are invited to apply for funding every two years for consideration as part of the department's and Tasmanian Government's budget process. A list of fifty schools targeted for redevelopment over the next ten years will be formulated to ensure a clear process and a forward CIP program that is transparent and well understood by school communities.
Under the Capital Investment Program for 2009-11, school principals (excluding college principals) are now invited to apply for funding to support school improvements and facility upgrades. Copies of Building Better Schools – Policy and planning process for improving schools [PDF 1.9MB] were sent to schools in May 2008 together with a covering memo which outlines the application process and details how priorities will be assessed.
Principals who applied for funding in December 2007 are encouraged to review their applications and consider if the project still represents the school’s highest priority for funding. All applications received in 2007 will remain in the system unless Principals provide advice in writing that an application is no longer current and should be withdrawn, or is to be replaced with a new application
The Asset Strategy Steering Committee (ASSC), which includes General Managers as representatives of Team Learning Services, will assess the relative needs of schools and determine priorities for redevelopments and facility upgrades.
Principals are encouraged to complete applications for major works using the online form and submit the form electronically. Applications should address the selection criteria as described in the Building Better Schools policy and must be submitted on or before Friday 11 July 2008. The application form is relatively simple, with only a brief outline of the project needed at this initial stage.
