The personal information collected by the Department of Education is protected by the provisions of the Personal Information Protection Act 2004. There are ten Personal Information Protection Principles in the Act that require all Tasmanian government departments to provide a range of protections in relation to the collection, storage, use and disclosure of personal information.

Personal information can be almost any information linked to an individual, including name, address, sex, age, or health information.
