AuSSI Wins Tasmanian Environment Award

Tasmanian Government school teachers Jenny Dudgeon and Jayne Lewis have been awarded for their outstanding work on the Australian Sustainable Schools (AuSSi) Initiative.

The AuSSI-Tas program took out the Education Award at the Tasmanian Awards for Environmental Excellence 2011 in Hobart recently.

AuSSi has been operating in Tasmania since 2007 and, thanks to the hard work of Jenny and Jayne, there are now 113 Tasmanian schools committed to becoming more sustainable.

(AuSSI) makes strong links to the curriculum and engages students, staff and members of the community to improve the management of school's resources and facilities - including energy, waste, water, biodiversity.

Through their work with AuSSI-Tas Jenny and Jayne provide practical support to schools to developing strategies to become more sustainable.

AuSSI-Tas is a partnership between the Department of Education and Department of Primary Industries, Parks, Water and Environment, and the Australian Government’s Department of Sustainability, Environment, Water, Population and Communities.

Congratulations go to Jenny and Jayne for their commitment and dedication to this outstanding program.
