Children with special or additional needs

Does your child (aged 0-4 years) have special or additional needs?

Do they have a significant developmental delay or disability, for example: physical, intellectual, communication, play, sensory, social, emotional or behavioural? You can check the Indicators of Development for a guide to early milestones.

You may be eligible for family centred early childhood intervention services provided by the Early Childhood Intervention Service (formerly Early Learning Tasmania).

You can access early childhood intervention programs of various types to suit your child and family.

These may include:

group programs
home visiting
individual educational sessions
therapy
support for your child within a regular child care centre
transition to school
library of resources

Individualised family service plans (IFSP): Individualised Family Service Plans (IFSPs) are developed with families. They provide meaningful information, strategies, ideas and support for families and the development of their child.
Premature infant programs: Premature Infant Programs (PIPs) offer support to families through home visits, information referral to other services and playgroup sessions.
Autism specific programs: Autism Specific Programs support families of children with Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD) through the autism parent support group, Zone programs, home visit programs, individual teaching programs, parent education programs and autism specific playgroups.
