Guiding principles of the Individualised Family Service Plan
Family Strengths
Early Childhood Intervention Service Strengths  

An Individualised Family Service Plan (IFSP) suits your family’s values, beliefs, priorities and routines. It is:

  • a written plan
  • flexible and relevant to the changing needs of your child and family

The plan is developed by a team which includes:

  • your family (including siblings and extended family members)
  • Early Childhood Intervention Service staff

It may also include:

  • other service providers (for example, doctors, therapists, child care providers)
  • other individuals invited by your family (for example, family friends)

Guiding principles of the Individualised Family Service Plan

  • Your child is unique, with individual strengths and talents
  • Your child grows and develops in the context of relationships with your family members and other caregivers
  • Your child has a right to:
    • belong,
    • be welcomed
    • participate fully in activities within your community
  • Your child has opportunities to learn and develop in:
    • everyday routines
    • everyday activities
    • everyday places
  • The life of your family is enhanced when you are successful in maintaining your everyday activities and relationships.

    • identify and prioritise needs
    • locate resources in the community to meet those needs
