Background
Get Science, Engineering and Technology (GetSET) is a program funded by Australian Schools Innovation in Science, Technology and Mathematics (ASISTM).
The program is a partnership between the School of Engineering, University of Tasmania (UTAS), Centre for Extended Learning Opportunities (CELO) and the Department of Education, Tasmania.
Project Details
The 'Engineering the Engagement of Students through Hands-on Activities' project aims to:
- improve student and teacher engagement with Science, Engineering and Technology (SET) through a range of practical activities, and
- improve the current low retention of Tasmanian students into both tertiary study (as compared with other Australian states) and SET study and careers, through development of clear pathways from primary to post-secondary study.
The project will involve various primary and secondary schools and senior secondary colleges, as well as the University of Tasmania and the Centre for Extended Learning Opportunities as major partners.
Activities will focus on hands-on design, construction and testing of projects involving renewable energy powered vehicles, wireless and fibre optic devices, model planes and rockets and robotic platforms..
