Construction underway for children’s hub at Beaconsfield
The Federal Minister for Early Childhood Education and Child Care Kate Ellis and Tasmanian Premier David Bartlett today announced that building is underway on new facilities for children and their families. The Australian Government is investing $1.8 million in an Early Learning and Care Centre while the Tasmanian Government is investing $2.5 million for a Child and Family Centre.
Both the new services are being built at Beaconsfield Primary School to create an integrated service and support hub for children and their families.
Mr Bartlett visited the site today to inspect construction works.
“This is the first of up to 30 centres to be built across Tasmania over the next four years to support families with the health care and education needs of young children.
“In co-operation with the Federal Government, this project provides through a single door a range of services for children - from birth, long day care and kindergarten to primary school, plus support for parents and carers,” Mr Bartlett said.
“We’re committed to helping every parent to be the best parent they can be, so that we give our children the best possible start in life. I want every Tasmanian child to arrive at school ready to learn and already with the seed of a lifelong love of learning sown within them” he said.
Ms Ellis says a Federally-funded Early Learning and Care Centre will also be located at the site.
“We need to invest in our littlest citizens to give them the best possible start in life and build healthy and happy communities,” she said.
“Up to 40 children and their families will benefit from this new Early Learning and Care Centre. That means a brighter future for 40 more youngsters.”
“The Beaconsfield community has been working towards building a long day care facility in the town for more than four years and it’s exciting to see their hard work bearing fruit,” Ms Ellis said.
“The local community, including Beaconsfield Primary and the Child and Family Centre’s Local Enabling Group have embraced this concept and I’d like to thank them for their hard work to help make this a reality,” Mr Bartlett said.
A master plan has been devised for the school site by architects cb+m Design Solutions.
The project will be completed by June next year.
The two centres will complement work being done at Beaconsfield Primary School as part of the Australian Government’s Building the Education Revolution initiative. | ||
