New North-West Primary School Name Unveiled Romaine Park Primary is the name chosen for the new primary school in Burnie to be constructed as part of a major revamp of education facilities in the North-West, Labor Member for Braddon, Bryan Green, said today. Mr Green said that following consultation with the Acton, Brooklyn and Upper Burnie primary school communities, the name Romaine Park Primary School was chosen.
“Romaine Park Primary was selected because of geographic and historical significance,” Mr Green said.
“William Romaine was an early settler in the Burnie area (1842), and Romaine was a small country school in the Burnie municipality in the early years of the last century.”
“The term ‘Park’ was chosen to give a connection to Parklands High School named originally because of the trees and park-like site of its location.”
Mr Green paid tribute to the work of school communities in Burnie for securing the optimum in learning facilities for North-West students.
“The amalgamation of Acton, Upper Burnie and Brooklyn primary schools to enable the construction of one brand new primary school on the grounds of Parklands High School is a fantastic initiative and is a great response to the demographic challenges facing the Burnie community.”
“Romaine Park, Burnie, Montello, Havenview and Cooee primary schools will make up the group of five strong viable government primary schools in the Burnie city area.”
“I commend all the school communities for seizing the opportunity to achieve what will be an outstanding educational outcome for the Burnie area.”
Mr Green said he was impressed with the way the school communities in Burnie had engaged with the process.
“They have a real depth of understanding of the complexity of the issues and a determination to provide the best possible education for their children.”
“This important education project is about every child in the Burnie area having a better start and access to better schools that offer better curriculum choices,” Mr Green said.
