Goulburn Street Primary School wins Active Tasmania's Move Well Eat Wel prize for 2009

Goulburn Street Primary School's Year 6 students Leading the Way program sees senior students leading both the highly successful daily physical activity program (DPE) and taking responsibility for the school canteen. Students plan, coordinate and facilitate the DPE program for the whole school. This involves leading students in seven groups of various skill based activities every day. Goulburn Street Primary has recognised the link between physical activity and healthy eating. Every Year 5 and 6 student is allocated a function in assisting in the operation of the school canteen. The core philosophies of communication, problem solving and team work compliment the underpinning goal of selling healthy food, and limiting "occasional" foods. The messages from this program have become a strong part of the school's ethos and has led to stronger links with the wider school community. Well done Goulburn Street!
