Better Schools Tasmania
with Fairer Funding for all students
The way our schools are being funded is changing.
From January 2014, Better Schools Tasmania will improve education outcomes for young Tasmanians, especially those from disadvantaged backgrounds.
A partnership between the Tasmanian and Australian Governments, Better Schools Tasmania will assist in improving the quality and equity of education in our schools for all Tasmanian students.
Funding alone is not enough to address Tasmania’s schooling challenges and that’s why Better Schools Tasmania includes a plan for making our good schools even better.
The school improvement plan will address:
It’s about making our schools better…
It’s about ensuring school funding is fair…
It’s about making a difference to every Tasmanian student.
Tasmania will use its Fairer Funding Model in Tasmanian Government schools to distribute the Better Schools funding.
Since 2009, in consultation with the education community, Tasmania has been working on its own funding reform – the Fairer Funding model is the result.
The Fairer Funding Model aims to ensure that young Tasmanians from all backgrounds receive an education that is equitable, of high quality and maximises their potential in life.
Fairer Funding will provide a core allocation of funding to all schools based on the things all schools have in common - this will then be supplemented where there is need or disadvantage to ensure all students get the same opportunities.
