Vision and Fine Movements
- Can focus on moving objects and follow them with eyes.
- Forgets about objects that are moved away from line of sight.
- Explores things by putting them in the mouth.
- Grasps and plays with small objects.
- Moves objects from one hand to another.
- Can bang together two blocks for other objects
Large Movements
- Rolls from back to front.
- Can lift chest and abdomen from surface, supporting weight with hands.
- Plays with own hands and feet.
- Can sit when held.
- Bounces when held in a standing position.
Personal, Social and Emotional Development
- Friendly with strangers, but may show slight anxiety when mother or primary care-giver is out of sight.
- Responds differently to different tones of mother's voice, for example, cross, pleased.
- Imitates familiar actions, for example, waving, clapping.
- Knows and responds to familiar faces.
- Helps to hold the bottle when drinking.
Listening, Speaking and Understanding
- Begins to imitate sounds.
- Babbles and 'sings' using sounds such as ma, da, mu ...
- Has different cries to express, hunger, anger and pain.
- Laughs and squeals with delight.
- Shakes rattle deliberately to make sound.
Seek advice if a child
- Does not smile in response to other people's smiles.
- Does not focus on a moving object and follow it with eyes.
- Does not reach for objects or familiar persons.
- Does not turn head to locate a sound.
