Linking to objects
The purpose of this learning object is to present students in Year 8 with information in Bahasa Indonesia about an important real-world issue, the endangerment of species.
The 'case study' in Penyelamatan binatang (Animal rescue) is the orangutan. Students take the role of a freelance journalist who has put forward a proposal to write an article about this issue by looking at it from different points of view.
Students travel to four different locations in Indonesia and interview a different person in each location. Other information is available in each place as well. During the interviews, students are able to select text for possible use in their article. They also take photographs and write accompanying captions.
The article is written by building on to sentence starters using their own text or some of the collected text; and selecting accompanying photographs.
This learning object is suitable for more advanced year 8 students.
All spoken text is accompanied by native-speaker sound and English rollover help is provided for more difficult words.
Another learning object in the series, Perjalanan berbahaya, explores similar issues and ideas through the 'Dangerous (life) journey' of another endangered species, the Leatherback turtle.
