This learning object asks students to consider what makes us the kind of people we are, and what effect our culture has on our personal identity.

It introduces Ketut, the Indonesian student character, and challenges students to find out about the kind of person he is by looking at his bedroom and back yard, listening to his friends and family talking about him and reading his school diary. Students critically analyse the text and images in each context to answer questions about Ketut and reflect on their own identity as well.

They then create an identity collage of images and words to represent Ketut. The 'collage maker' allows them to change the position, size and colour of a bank of images, and of Indonesian words. Students must decide how to represent the importance of different things to Ketut and the relationships between those things. They can also create an identity collage to represent their own identity.

All spoken text is accompanied by native-speaker sound and English rollover help is provided for more difficult words.

This learning object is designed for students of Indonesian in upper primary (Yrs 5/6 and 6/7), with some experience of Indonesian. It uses the language of likes and dislikes, adjectives, sports, hobbies and family.
