TATE
TATE is a State Branch of the Australian Association for the Teaching of English (AATE). It is a professional body that aims to promote and support the teaching and study of English in Tasmania at primary, secondary and senior secondary levels. Our Association is open to teachers in Government, Catholic and independent schools as well as tertiary educators and students.

ALEA Tasmania
The Australian Literacy Educators' Association is a membership association dedicated to the improvement of literacy development and language learning at all levels.
ALEA consists of a network of local councils throughout Australia. There are three local councils in Tasmania. One is based in Hobart, Tas South Council; another is based in Launceston, Tas North; and the third is based on the North West Coast, Tas North West. Each local council meets to share expertise and organise professional development functions for members and others interested in language and literacy.
Members are kept informed by a state newsletter ALEA Update, local council flyers for events and national mailouts of ALEA's publications.

Mathematical Association of Tasmania (MAT)
MAT is a state branch of the Australian Association of Mathematics Teachers, the nation’s premier organisation of mathematics educators. It aims to:
- support and enhance the work of teachers;
- promote the learning of mathematics; and
- represent and promote interests in mathematics education.
It is a federation of 12 associations of teachers of mathematics from all Australian states and territories and has over 5000 individual and institutional members.

Premier’s Reading Challenge
All Tasmanian students from grades one to six are invited to read twenty books in twenty weeks finishing before 30 September 2008. Students who register will receive $10 towards books for their school library and the Premier will send a signed certificate to every student who completes the challenge.
