Ayo! Let’s go – visiting Indonesia

For an Australian person visiting Indonesia there are many cultural barriers that need to be understood and overcome. Australia has unique culture/s that, if understood, can provide Australians with valuable and positive experiences of cultural diversity.

Students viewed a collection of objects identifiable with Indonesian culture and reflected

What are they? What are they used for? What culture are they associated with?

They also viewed some video footage and visited websites to develop their understanding of Indonesian culture. Students participated in online learning of Indonesian language through WebCT, to support them in working towards their culminating performance, based on the following scenario: A group of Australians will be visiting Indonesia for three weeks in September. Your task is to organise an intercultural tour. You will need to consider how Australians will cope with socialisation within a different culture and the places to visit that are of significance to the Indonesian cultural experience.
