1.1 An effective school library:

  • Provides appropriate resources (including digital resources) and information to meet the needs of the school community
  • Utilises current technology to provide efficient access to and effective communication of information
  • Provides opportunities and resources for teachers to integrate information skills into learning activities
  • Is provided with sufficient funding to achieve the school's educational aims
  • Enriches students reading experiences and develops their skills as independent learners
  • Supports the teaching and learning process
  • Has adequate professional and trained support staff
  • Is planned and designed to be a pleasant and stimulating learning environment
  • Is monitored regularly to assess its use
  • Improves student literacy standards
  • Models and monitors priorities based on contemporary library principles
