4.10 Copyright in schools

Copyright is a law contained in the Copyright Act that protects a variety of material types from being reproduced. Some examples of works protected by copyright include:

  • Written material
  • Musical works
  • Dramatic works
  • Films
  • Television and radio broadcasts

  • Paintings, pictures, sculptures, etc.

All school library staff should be familiar with the Copyright Guidelines developed by the Tasmanian Department of Education. The guidelines have been developed to help school staff make the full use of educational resources and to comply with the Copyright Act and licence provisions - includes links to notices that must be placed near photocopiers, scanners, computers and audio-visual recording equipment.
