Taslib-link is a Tasmanian-based and focused email forum established to provide a means of communication, education and support for library staff in all library arenas across the state.
Conversation on Taslib focuses on topics of interest to Tasmanian library staff, including the latest issues and developments that relate to, and impact on, library services. These may include library and DoE policies and procedures, use of electronic resources, information literacy, reference queries, library management issues, TALIS and library automation, professional development opportunities, literature and the activities of professional organisations relating to librarianship.
Once subscribed, Taslib-link members can read and post messages to the forum through their personal email or through the web interface. Previous postings to the list can also be browsed from the web interface.

Taslib-link guidelines have been adapted with thanks from those formulated for OZTL_NET by Lyn Hay and Ken Dillon.
1. Sending messages
a. Think before you post - once a message has gone it cannot be retrieved! Please ensure:
-
the intent of your message is clear
-
it contains no embarrassing typos or spelling mistakes
-
it is written in lower-case characters. USING ALL UPPER-CASE IS CONSIDERED TO BE YELLING and should be used selectively.
b. Subject line - please include a subject line in your postings and make your subject relevant (‘query’ or ‘problem’ do not give readers enough information). Also, please prefix your subject with a keyword from the subject line prefix list. This allows members to assess the potential relevance of messages listed in their mail directory.
c. Signing your message – please conclude your message with an email signature or details of your name, email address and school/institution
d. Inappropriate messages - please be warned that anyone posting a ‘flame’ (an emotionally charged posting often directed at a specific person) or a rude or inappropriate message will be immediately dropped from the list.
e. Commercial messages - producers, authors, speakers and consultants are free to engage in list discussion and post brief commercial announcements, provided that the subject line keyword COMM prefixes the subject of the announcement. Producers should avoid negative comments about their competitors and/or their products and should reply to requests for information directly to the person by email rather than to the list.
f. Uncertain about sending? - if you feel uncertain about the value or relevance of a message you are considering posting, please feel free to email the TASLIB-LINK coordinators at: taslib-link-owner@forum.education.tas.gov.au.
2. Replying to messages
a. Using the ‘reply’ command - replies sent via email go only to the person who posted the original message. Replies sent via the web interface will be sent to the whole subscriber list. Be extremely careful when replying via the web interface: if the reply is private or may not be of interest to all members please do not post a web reply but instead contact the person privately via email.
b. Replying to requests for information - please send information privately to the requestor. This person can then summarise the results and post them to the list.
c. Quoting - when replying to a TASLIB-LINK message please quote only most relevant parts of the original message in your answer.
