Jane Dobson   Catherine L and Jane D on sea ice with Polar Knutsen   Caroline Lapworth

Two Tasmanian teachers, Jane Dobson from Claremont College and Caroline Lapworth from Geeveston District High, participated in a sea ice research voyage to the Antarctic from 4 September to 17 October 2007.

Caroline and Jane were very busy during their time away, and have created an excellent education section on the voyage website:  http://www.acecrc.sipex.aq

Of particular interest to teachers of science in primary and secondary schools is the Teacher's Toolbox, which contains practical activities for the classroom and demonstrates the principles behind the science happening aboard the SIPEX voyage to the Antarctic.

The Toolbox will be added to over the coming weeks and is designed to appeal to a wide variety of interest groups and ages. To locate the Toolbox, go to the Education page of the website: http://www.acecrc.sipex.aq/access/page/?page=7 and choose ‘Teacher’s Toolbox’ from the menu on the left of the page.

Students from Rosetta Primary School sent a travel buddy, Polar Knutsen (PK), on the voyage to investigate the Antarctic and report back via the voyage website. PK’s blog has been a big hit with students and teachers around the world. To follow the adventures of Polar Knutsen in the Antarctic and read his blog, go to: http://www.acecrc.sipex.aq/access/page/?page=79
