Mark explains his book (unpublished in Australia) that describes the domains of experience of primary-age students. Analysed this using a specific toy as a way of examining primary students.

Pesce identifies three domains:

Intelligence -  refers to Sherry Turkle's works  "The Magic Mirror" and "The Second Self" and how children react to computers and use them to mirror sapects of themselves that they can't otherwise access. Mark points out Shelley's link with Seymour Papert, Papert's connection to Jean Piaget and the child's capacity to build on simple commands.

Mark describes how Sherry used the Furby toy as the base for an excellent study of how children interact with a toy that can learn from interaction with the child. When asked, the 4-year olds classified the Furby as being neither a toy nor a pet  - they saw it as a new type of thing altogether.

That is,"I can give a child a toy which displays a new type of behaviour, and because of that new behaviour children can completely change their conceptualisation of the way the world works".
