Introduction

Sexuality is a fundamental part of everyone's life. During the past decade, discussions about sexual identity, sexual orientation, sexual behaviour and gender issues have become increasingly common in society and education. The Department of Education is strongly committed to policies and practices that promote understanding of sexual diversity in schools by:

  • addressing sexuality and relationship issues in the curriculum
  • questioning myths, stereotypes and inappropriate social expectations of sexual orientation and sexual identity, and
  • challenging the discrimination and harassment experienced by all people but particularly involving homophobia.
