Gender education has been identified as a mainstream issue in Tasmanian schools as gender inequities will intersect with and, in most cases, compound the educational disadvantages experienced by other target groups.
Responsibilities include:
- Assisting schools to implement the national document Gender Equity: A Framework for Australian Schools (1996) supported by the document, Gender Equity: Tasmanian Support Materials
- Assisting teachers to understanding the process of gender construction
- Development of curriculum for both teaching and learning
- Supporting change in schools
- Assist schools to eliminate gender based discrimination, harassment and bullying and violence and
- Provision of information about post school pathways for women and girls.
