Gender education has been identified as a mainstream issue in Tasmanian schools as gender inequities will intersect with and, in most cases, compound the educational disadvantages experienced by other target groups.

Responsibilities include:

  1. Assisting schools to implement the national document Gender Equity: A Framework for Australian Schools (1996) supported by the document, Gender Equity: Tasmanian Support Materials
  2. Assisting teachers to understanding the process of gender construction
  3. Development of curriculum for both teaching and learning
  4. Supporting change in schools
  5. Assist schools to eliminate gender based discrimination, harassment and bullying and violence and
  6. Provision of information about post school pathways for women and girls.
