The current drug education initiative in this state (2005-06 to 2007-08) arises from the Commonwealth Government's National Illicit Drug Strategy which is providing funding to each state and territory to recognise, integrate with, and enhance existing school initiatives.
As part of the National School Drug Education Strategy, the Tasmanian project has a dual focus:
- the provision of educational programs; and
- the provision of supportive environments (as discussed above).
During the life of this Strategy every school in Tasmania from kindergarten to senior secondary, in all government, Catholic and Independent schools, will be asked to review its response to drug issues within the broad agenda outlined above.
