This program is a fun, safe and active way to promote walking to and from school in your community. It provides an opportunity for children to gain regular physical activity and to learn road safety rules as they walk to and from school in the care of adult supervisors (leaders).
Burnie Primary School trialled and implemented the Walking Bus during Term 1 2005. They have offered assistance to other schools in developing organisational documents which may be viewed on this website.
An important aspect of the Burnie Primary School trial has been the community involvement in this project. Many interested groups from within the Burnie community worked together to support this activity as a means of promoting physical activity and providing a safe, supportive localised walk to school program.
