Water Skills

Students must demonstrate these skills

Free Movement

  • Demonstrate confidence in moving away from edge of the pool.

Submerge & Breath Out

  • Fully submerge without support (feet may be on the bottom).
  • Recovery demonstrates control of water around nose, mouth and eyes.
  • Demonstrates full exhalation under water.

Opening Eyes Under Water

  • Relaxed demonstration.
  • Recovery demonstrates control of water around nose, mouth and eyes.
  • No rubbing of eyes on surfacing.

Front Float To Stand

  • Glide maintained for minimum two metres.
  • No propulsion from arms or feet.

Front Torpedo

Scull On Back

  • Hands scull with palms, movement inward/outward from the midline of the body.
  • Buoyant position maintained.
  • No propulsive leg movements.

Pick-Up Object (Waist Deep)

  • Eyes open.

Kick, Roll, Kick

  • Commence kicking on front or back.
  • Roll either onto back or front.
  • Kick for 3 metres total distance.
  • Maintain a streamlined body with eyes open.

Recover Object In Chest Deep Water

  • Demonstrate ability to "sink" body, with feet off bottom.

Back Scull (Head First)
