The Department of Education supports 40 students in government schools around the state with a scholarship to support private tuition, instrument purchase, attendance at school based music camps and tours or the purchase of music resources applicable to the area of study. Cash grants are made to parents at the start of each school term.

Applications are called annually at the beginning of Term 3. Students are eligible to apply in Year 7, 8 or 9. Successful students take up their scholarships at the beginning of the following school year and, subject to satisfactory reports, hold the scholarship until the end of Grade 10.
