Overseas Student Health Cover (OSHC) is compulsory health cover for all international students in Australia on student visas. Students on visitor visas cannot purchase OSHC, they must purchase Overseas Visitor Health Cover.

Department of Education arranges OSHC on your behalf with Medibank Private, for the duration of your course. The annual fee for OSHC is $342. You are covered from the date that you arrive in Australia. You will receive a membership card shortly after your arrival.

OSHC helps you pay for:

  • treatment provided by doctors at their surgery, in your home or in a hospital
  • hospital charges when you are treated in a public hospital;
  • some hospital charges when you are treated in a private hospital;
  • ambulance charges (for medically necessary ambulance transport); and
  • prescription medicines.

For further information about OSHC, visit the Medibank Private OSHC website.
